ad | Sangria Recipe – with a fruity twist!

So, I am sat here, and I am a bit of a state this afternoon! Why, I hear you ask? Well, we go on holiday in a few days’ time to sunny Spain, and I have spent most of today packing for a family of five, whilst minding three kids at the same time. And let me tell you – two year-olds really enjoy emptying carefully packed suitcases!

Anyway, the last time we went away, we were a family of four. And I had a little stowaway in my tummy in the form of baby Stanley. I was 12 weeks pregnant at the time, and not long from announcing it to everyone, and I felt pretty queasy, bloated and tired on that holiday.

This time round, I’ve got the pleasure of taking my 12 week-old baby with me, and enjoying the sunshine with his siblings and his dad. AND, get this – I can have cocktails! Hurrah! I can’t wait.

Last time I remember sulking into my Diet Coke, while everyone around me sipped on Sangria. And there I found the inspiration for this post.

A while back, Ocean Spray got in touch with me to ask if I would mind creating a recipe with their latest addition to their range.

Ocean Spray Wholeberry. It’s different from your usual cranberry juice – they crush whole cranberries into a nourishing, flavourful drink to help preserve the fresh taste and nutrients of the entire cranberry… not just the juice. So you’re getting much more into your body with every sip. There are 40 whole cranberries in every 200ml serving, it’s full of antioxidant Vitamin C, a great source of fibre and has no added sugar either. There’s three flavours to choose from – Cranberry, Tropical Berry, and Mixed Berry, which I’m using in this recipe!

I hope you enjoy a different take on what has to be one of the best summer drinks out there. I will be having a lot of these next week! I chose to use the Ocean Spray Mixed Berry for an extra fruity kick, with a few extra health benefits. I think the Tropical Berry would be amazing too! I love playing around with recipes and I have to admit I very much enjoyed being taste tester today!

  • A nice bottle of Spanish red wine.
  • 1/3 of a cup of brandy or rum (I prefer brandy!).
  • Juice of one and a half large oranges (reserved the other half as you’ll see below).
  • 1/2 cup of Ocean Spray Wholeberry Mixed Berry.
  • 1/2 apple, cored, skin on, chopped into small pieces.
  • 1/2 large orange, rind on, chopped into small pieces.
  • 3 tbsp of brown sugar, or sweetener if preferred.
  • A big handful of ice.

Take a large jug, and add in your freshly squeezed orange juice and sugar – the acidity of the orange juice will help to dissolve the sugar. Next, add your chopped fruit, followed by your Ocean Spray Wholeberry, brandy/rum, and your red wine. Stir to combine. And then add a big handful of cold ice to chill. Serve immediately in generous portions! And enjoy!

Thank you to Ocean Spray for working with me on this post!
