Since I announced I was first pregnant, a lot of people have asked if I’ll be doing a nursery tour. And I will indeed! I just…well…we have a lot of work to do first!
As you might know, from reading my home updates, we’ve not had the best of luck with our house over the past month or so. We’ve been really lucky to have the opportunity to extend and renovate, but it’s not been an easy ride.
Up until this week, our nursery had still been leaking. I didn’t talk about it to anyone (sorry Mum!) as it was really making me feel stressed, especially as we’d already broken into our maternity leave savings to pay for our exploding radiator. And I was really anxious about money and what was wrong with our roof.
Our builder arranged for the roofers to come and have another look and they ended up re-felting the entire roof on that side, because the felt had worn away and they suspected it was causing the leak in the new dormer.
And he did it for free, as it’s Christmas.
It could have been anything and we weren’t there to see it, and we aren’t roof experts anyway, but to hear that made me feel such relief.
Now I feel like we can tentatively start work on our little girl’s nursery.
We’ve already had the walls painted by my lovely mum, in a calm shade of white. And we’ve had second-hand carpet go down, thanks to my friend’s husband who’s a fitter, and my grandparents who were getting rid of their pristine carpet.
We’ve also had lovely new skirting fitted, thanks to the team at The Skirting Board Shop. And I promised I would mention them, as they supplied the skirting for us and I owe them a review when the room is nice enough to show-off. But for now, I wanted to include them in this post and give a big shout out to Phil, who talked me through everything on the phone and helped me make sure that we had the right skirting for our house. And also Alice, from the PR team, who got in touch with me in the first place and arranged it all!

It feels like it’s been a long time coming to get to this point. I won’t lie, it has added a lot of stress and I’m not sure I’d recommend any pregnant ladies have such a lot of work done all at the same time. But it was worth it. I’m really excited to kit-out her room now. Her nursery is currently full of piles of baby clothes, a sling, a travel system and lots of unwrapped Christmas presents, with a huge stain on the ceiling from the leak. I’m hoping that we can make some progress over Christmas, and I’ll have somewhere nice and clean to store all of her things and prepare for her arrival in the Spring.
Speaking of Spring, I would like a yellow, white and grey theme running throughout the room. If you’ve seen my living room, you’ll know those colours are my favourite, and I’d love somewhere calm and peaceful for her, with lots of character too. I’m sure touches of pink, neutrals and even some black will feature too, but I’d like to do something a bit different if I can.
I’ve got a lot to do anyway! What do you think of my choices?
