The Weekend Post #12 (The Easter One)

So this weekend, was the Easter weekend.
Four whole days of glorious family time. And actual sunshine.

Mark and I celebrated the long weekend ahead with a slow cooker Beef Rendang on Thursday night. We decided to skip work drinks, to make sure this baby didn’t cook to nothing, and just have a night just us two, with a few drinks. It was lovely. We were so relaxed. That doesn’t happen enough.

I also came home to the latest issue of Gurgle. The team have to be praised for their blogger outreach skills. A lovely bit of reading, some branded marshmallows and this gorgeous “STOP, MAMA TIME!” postcard that had to go on the wall above our desk.

I also had a delivery from Jules Oliver’s Little Bird range, at Mothercare. As soon as I saw those wellies I had to have them. And then the hot air balloon jacket just needed to be added to the basket too. Look at it!

Friday lunchtime called for some bagels. I was surprised I had enough food in to rustle up a sandwich ahead of our Tesco delivery. You can see the video and meal plan for this week here.

For tea, I made slow cooker BBQ chicken wings, with homemade sweet potato fries, ‘slaw and corn on the cob. It was good. And toddler friendly too.

Saturday was a busy one for us. We visited Mark’s mum in Preston, which was lovely, and rushed back to make the clinic times to get the cats vaccinated. After that, we tucked into my slow cooker lamb leg (recipe here), and then made Easter Nest Cakes together. It’s one of my favourite memories from the weekend.

After we’d eaten and made our cakes, we gave Bill his Easter Basket (you can see what was inside here) so Mark could enjoy the moment with him too, as he spent Sunday and most of Monday catching up with his friends that he’s known since he was young.

Bill was so chuffed. I know people tend to wonder what happened to Easter, commercially, but I didn’t spend much and I was happy buying more books over more chocolate. I really recommend giving it a go!

On Sunday morning, we started the day off with Mark. Who insisted on a Preston tradition of an Easter Egg Roll. Google it. I’m telling the truth! Everyone in Preston tends to go to a big hill to do this, but we made do with our stairs, given we’re an hour away! It’s bloomin’ good fun too!

Once Mark had left, we headed to my grandparents to catch up with all of my lovely family.
We had an Easter Egg Hunt.

An amazing buffet. I ate too much (as always). Oops.

And my Giant Easter Nest Cake was the star of the show, which made me feel pretty chuffed!

My little boy enjoyed barefoot play in the sunshine. Building a moat for ants (questionable), playing hide and seek with my cousins, and generally being a happy, little two year-old.

Monday, was a day just for Bill and Mama.

We watched Paw Patrol. With Teddy over our shoulders, hung in suspense.

Bill also had a big old nap, after an unsettled night. And I cleared out all of my makeup. I have a huge bag full ready to give my friends, some skincare bits for my mum, and a few old bits in the bin. I felt so good doing that. Nothing like a Spring clean, now Spring is actually here.
I also met my brother’s new girlfriend. She’s really lovely.
We ended the weekend with a toddler snack plate. And I finally managed a decent avatar photograph not taken on an iPhone! Look. My face in HD. You poor lot.

And the best bit?
Mark arrived home early. He did bath time. And as we were about to read Bill books, he kissed Mark mid-sentence and then climbed on to my knee, and said: “Thank you for my Easter, Mama and Mark. I lub you.”
And now I’m making Mark leftover lamb orzo, and I’ll be having a final glass of Prosecco. What? It’s still the weekend.

It sounds like you have had a lovely family weekend. I love those bits from the Little Bird collection! I've been eyeing up some of the recent stuff for Elsa. I love her in bright colours.

We didn't do a lot for Easter in the end, but we are hopefully going to catch a late egg hunt on Wednesday. I watched your video about Bill's basket, it looks like it was really lovely. I don't really buy into Easter but I like the idea of giving books instead of chocolate πŸ™‚

Oh and your new picture is fab. Pretty girl πŸ™‚
