Mama Make-Up - Topshop Whimsical Lipstick

As it was my birthday last month, I decided to treat myself to a few little items that would serve as a pick-me-up on a bad day. I've been wanting to try a Topshop lipstick for ages, particularly as they are rumoured to be manufactured by the same company that produces MAC products.

I was at the till, buying the black bowling bag I've been lusting after for ages and then I saw the stand and quickly grabbed Whimsical.

It's one I have read tons of reviews on (and here's one more!) and it's what I'd describe as a Charlotte Shade - it's neutral, not to pale, not too dark and generally lovely.

It's a matte shade and claims to be moisturising too. I wouldn't say it's like kissing a puddle in terms of moisture, but for a matte lipstick it's not too bad at all. I've been wearing it slicked over my Burt's Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter (which is holy grail for me - I love that stuff) and I'm good to go. It doesn't last forever and I probably reapply three times throughout the day if it matters enough to me to do so and I'm not swamped with work.

On me, this is a lovely pink, with a touch of peach. My lips are naturally quite pink and pigmented in general, but I've seen it come out as a flushed peach on others.

I absolutely love the off-white and black packaging, but I know it's going to take on an orange hue if it hangs around in my make-up bag or handbag for too long.

Similar to MAC? I'd say that, in terms of quality, the Topshop lipsticks are a great alternative when you don't quite fancy shelling out £14.00 on a lipstick, as you could almost get two for that price at a respectable £8.00 each. I hope Topshop release some new shades soon. I think I'm hooked.

You can find the Whimsical in your local Topshop store (I wish there was one that was closer to me!) and online here. I have my eye on Innocent next...

  4. I came across this shade on polyvore the other day and thought it looked great. The perfect mix of pink and peach. (I too am a big fan of burt's bees lipbalm - but the pomegranate one!)x
