Every bloody year, on 1st January, I (like the rest of the entire world) pop my little life under the microscope and decide it is, well...shit.
And it’s stupid. Because my life actually rocks when I take a moment to turn off the dramatics. But I give myself these insanely large targets and I make so many resolutions that I can’t even remember half of them. I don’t really want to give up alcohol or stop eating chocolate, you see?
I just want to be happy. That should be easy, right?
So this year I resolve not to make resolutions, but pick some New Year’s Solutions instead.
- Size - If you are happy being a size 16, stop self-depreciating and just be happy. You idiot. If you aren't, do something about it. Cut out drinking during the week again. Eat as you mean to go on. Ignore the diets, because you are never happy doing them. Exercise will always be hard to find time for - so just eat less and do more. There's no magic spells. It's just fact.
- Face - Perfect skin you say? Stick to a bloody skincare regime then. They do work and you have seen results before. You're just too lazy to take your makeup off properly every night. And no Wilbo's baby wipes will not suffice. Thief.
- Wardrobe - You wake up and you are so tired that you pull on the same outfit you wear every Tuesday. Be a bit more creative, because you'll feel better and then you'll stop buying clothes and hiding them under the bed until you return them a week later because you impulse-bought something that would better suit a rake and makes you look like you raided a thin and fashionable person's wardrobe just for kicks.
- Loneliness - Try saying yes to something once a week. As in something new. Not "would you like some cake?" We both know what the answer will be to that. You say you're lonely but you don't often do yourself any favours sometimes.
- The House - At least you have a home Charlotte. Don't be ashamed of it's dated decor and have fun in it and have people round! It will get done when it gets done.
- Boredom - Get a hobby. At least move from the sofa. Try something crafty like crochet or something. Knowing you you'd probably like it. Oh - and learn to use that camera properly.
- Friendships - The same for Loneliness applies. But stop letting people walk all over you. It's okay for you not to like someone and for someone not to like you. There are trillions of people on this earth Charlotte, don't stick with the ones who aren't right. You'll all be happier that way.
- Confidence - You used to be so confident and it's trailed off a little hasn't it? I think it's because you aren't happy with yourself and assume people have written you off because you are a mum. You pushed a baby out of your vajayjay darling. You are awesome.
- Relationship - You and Stephen can be like passing ships sometimes. But text him now - go on. You just opened your lunch to find he put the tomatoes in a separate sandwich bag, sliced, because you hate it when your sandwiches go soggy. That's a good man. And go on a date. Shave your bear legs and drink too much and so on and so forth. You minx.
- Motherhood - Is your baby happy? Yes. Does he love you? Yes. Do I need to say anymore? No. See my point?
I think all of this is achievable. I'm okay with the fact that I'll never be a size ten. I like cake too much.

The bit about soggy sandwiches is so cute. I love love!!
ReplyDeleteAchievable solutions! It's easy to get bogged down by life sometimes x
Lee cuts the crusts off my sandwiches! True love shows through sandwiches it would seem!! I'm with you on the whole not sticking wi the wrong people anymore!
ReplyDeleteGood plan. Relationships can be difficult when you're both working and have a baby to put first, it sucks. But I think I may annoy Gary with my trillion texts a day ;) (not a stalker... At all...). And the bear legs thing... Shaving is such an EFFORT! I practically do a dance when I have so Gary notices hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI like your 'solutions' - some people s resolutions are so silly and not achievable at all, whereas you have set something manageable and realistic. Go mama! Xo
